| Three Francis turbines, originally ordered for the Stadacona power plant in Canada in 1912, were ultimately installed in Opponitz/Austria in 1924, due to the outbreak of the First World War. After 70 years of operation, they made way for three new horizontal-shaft Francis spiral turbines in 1995. Together with new generators, their average annual energy output of approximately 69 GWh supplies an additional 20 % of electricity to the grid.
